Provérbios 25

1 These [are] also proverbs of Solomon, which theWhom Hezekiah appointed for this purpose.men of Hezekiah king of JudahThat is, gathered out of various books of Solomon.copied out.

2 [It is] the glory of God toGod does not reveal the cause of his judgments to man.conceal a thing: but the honour ofBecause the king rules by the revealed word of God, the cause of his doings must appear, and therefore he must use diligence in trying causes.kings [is] to search out a matter.

3 The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart ofHe shows that it is too hard for man to attain the reason of all the secret doings of the king, even when he is upright and does his duty.kings [is] unsearchable.

4 Take away theWhen vice is removed from a king, he is a meet vessel for the Lord's use.dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the refiner.

5 TakeIt is not enough that he is pure himself, but that he put away others who are corrupted.away the wicked [from] before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.

6 Boast not thy selfe before the King, and stand not in the place of great men.

7 For it is better, that it be saide vnto thee, Come vp hither, then thou to be put lower in the presece of the prince whom thine eyes haue seene.

8 Goe not foorth hastily to strife, least thou know not what to doe in the ende thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.

9 Debate thy matter with thy neighbour, and discouer not the secret to another,

10 Lest he that heareth [it] put thee to shame, and thy infamyLest while you think by this means to have an end of the matter, it put you to further trouble.turn not away.

11 A word spoken in his place, is like apples of golde with pictures of siluer.

12 He that reprooueth the wise, and the obedient eare, is as a golden earering and an ornament of fine golde.

13 As the cold of snowIn the time of great heat, when men desire cold.in the time of harvest, [so is] a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.

14 Whoever boasteth himself of a false gift [is like]Which have an outward appearance, and are nothing within.clouds and wind without rain.

15 By longBy not creating opportunity to provoke him further.forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh theThat is, the heart that is bent to anger, as in (Pro_15:1).bone.

16 Hast thou found honey? eat so much as isUse moderately the pleasures of this world.sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled with it, and vomit it.

17 Withdrawe thy foote from thy neighbours house, least he be weary of thee, and hate thee.

18 A man that beareth false witnes against his neighbour, is like an hammer and a sword, and a sharpe arrowe.

19 Confidence in an vnfaythfull man in time of trouble, is like a broken tooth and a sliding foote.

20 [As] he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, [and as] vinegar uponWhich melts it, and consumes it.soda, so [is] he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.

21 If hee that hateth thee be hungry, giue him bread to eate, and if he be thirstie, giue him water to drinke.

22 For thou shalt heapYou will, as if by force, overcome him, in so much that his own conscience will move him to acknowledge the benefits, and his heart will be inflamed.coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.

23 As the Northwinde driueth away the raine, so doeth an angry countenance the slandering tongue.

24 It is better to dwell in a corner of the house top, then with a contentious woman in a wide house.

25 As are the colde waters to a weary soule, so is good newes from a farre countery.

26 A righteous man falling downe before the wicked, is like a troubled well, & a corrupt spring.

27 It is not good to eate much hony: so to search their owne glory is not glory.

28 He that [hath] no rule over his own spirit [is like] a city [that is]And so is in extreme danger.broken down, [and] without walls.
