Jó 39

1 {cf2 (39:4)} Knowest thou the time when the wilde goates bring foorth yong? or doest thou marke when the hindes doe calue?

2 Canst thou number the months [that] theyThat is, how long they go with young?fulfil? or knowest thou the time when they bring forth?

3 They bow themselves, theyThey bring forth with great difficulty.bring forth their young ones, they cast out their sorrows.

4 {cf2 (39:7)} Yet their yong waxe fatte, and growe vp with corne: they goe foorth and returne not vnto them.

5 {cf2 (39:8)} Who hath set the wilde asse at libertie? or who hath loosed the bondes of the wilde asse?

6 Whose house I have made the wilderness, and theThat is, the barren ground where no good fruit grows.barren land his dwellings.

7 {cf2 (39:10)} He derideth the multitude of the citie: he heareth not the crie of the driuer.

8 {cf2 (39:11)} He seeketh out the mountaine for his pasture, and searcheth after euery greene thing.

9 Will the unicorn be willing toIs it possible to make the unicorn tame? signifying that if man cannot rule a creature, that it is much more impossible that he should appoint the wisdom of God, by which he governs all the world.serve thee, or abide by thy crib?

10 {cf2 (39:13)} Canst thou binde the vnicorne with his band to labour in the furrowe? or will he plowe the valleyes after thee?

11 {cf2 (39:14)} Wilt thou trust in him, because his stregth is great, and cast off thy labour vnto him?

12 {cf2 (39:15)} Wilt thou beleeue him, that he will bring home thy seede, and gather it vnto thy barne?

13 {cf2 (39:16)} Hast thou giuen the pleasant wings vnto the peacockes? or winges and feathers vnto the ostriche?

14 Which leaveth her eggs in the earth, andThey write that the ostrich covers her eggs in the sand, and because the country is hot and the sun still keeps them warm, they are hatched.warmeth them in dust,

15 {cf2 (39:18)} And forgetteth that the foote might scatter the, or that the wild beast might breake the.

16 She is hardened against her young ones, as though [they were] not hers: her labour isIf he should take care of them.in vain without fear;

17 Because God hath deprived her ofThat is, to have a care and natural affection toward his young.wisdom, neither hath he imparted to her understanding.

18 WhatWhen the young ostrich is grown up, he outruns the horse.time she lifteth up herself on high, she scorneth the horse and his rider.

19 Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck withThat is, given him courage? which is meant by neighing and shaking his neck.thunder?

20 {cf2 (39:23)} Hast thou made him afraid as the grashopper? his strong neying is fearefull.

21 HeHe beats with his hoof.paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in [his] strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men.

22 {cf2 (39:25)} He mocketh at feare, and is not afraid, and turneth not backe from the sworde,

23 {cf2 (39:26)} Though the quiuer rattle against him, the glittering speare and the shield.

24 HeHe so rides the ground that it seems nothing under him.swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that [it is] the sound of the trumpet.

25 {cf2 (39:28)} He sayth among the trumpets, Ha, ha: hee smelleth the battell afarre off, and the noyse of the captaines, and the shouting.

26 Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, [and] stretch her wings toward theThat is, when cold comes, to fly into the warm countries.south?

27 {cf2 (39:30)} Doeth the egle mount vp at thy commandement, or make his nest on hie?

28 {cf2 (39:31)} Shee abideth and remaineth in the rocke, euen vpon the toppe of the rocke, and the tower.

29 {cf2 (39:32)} From thence she spieth for meate, and her eyes beholde afarre off.

30 {cf2 (39:33)} His young ones also sucke vp blood: and where the slaine are, there is she.
